studies (like these pictured below) prior to beginning work on the final piece.
This was similar to an artist making sketches prior to beginning a painting.
These studies are not meant to be seen as "finished work", nor were they meant
to be sold. Some of them have disappeared and others have been destroyed -
not necessarily intentionally. Below are a few of these studies..
