The Casino is one of the most famous buildings in Romania.  It was built in 1907-1910.  The architect was Daniel Renard who designed the structure in a beautiful Art Nouveau style.  Shortly after opening in 1911, the Casino became one of the best known in Europe and attracted "high rollers" from all over the world.  It was noted for it's classic architecture and the wonderful views of the sea.  The pedestrian area around the Casino was always popular as the place to "see and be seen" - especially at sunset.

During WWI the building was turned into a hospital and although severely bombed, it was re-built after the war.

The investment company that used to run the Casino secured a new contract for 49 years but they seemed to have lost interest and never opened the hall after the contract was signed.  The structure sat idle and began to decay.  Constanta has now cancelled the contract and is looking for a buyer of the property who will hopefully restore it once more to it's former glory.
