The Old State House was the first permanent capitol building of Delaware.  Begun in 1787, this Georgian-style building was designed by English architect Alexander Givan and is located on the historic "Green" in Dover, Delaware.  It was originally mean to be the Kent County Court House, but by the time it was finished in 1791, it's name had changed to the State House.

It has served as a focal point in the state's civic life for over two centuries and continues to hold a special place in the eyes of Delawareans.  In 1976 the Old State House was restored to its 18th century appearance as part of Delaware's bicentennial celebration commemorating the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

The building is now a museum and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
